Sumurun
is a lovely 94' gaff-rigged ketch built in 1914 by William Fife & Son in Scotland, constructed of teak and elm planks on oak frames.   Originally built for Lord Sackville of Kent as a day sailer, today Sumurun competes in trans-Atlantic races, regattas in the Caribbean, and on Nantucket in the Opera House Cup Regatta.  While she has not yet won the Opera House Cup, under the steady hand of her skipper and Nantucket Yacht Club Commodore Buzz Goddall and his nine partners, 2009 could be the year for Sumurun to take home the first place trophy.  The team has generously made available two seats on Sumurun for the Opera House Cup on August 16, 2009.   When it comes to speed, beauty and elegance, this classic wooden yacht is hard to beat.  Come enjoy the sailing experience of a lifetime!

White Wings & Wild Horses

Sponsorship level "SAILOR."    Contribution:   $250 for one seat.   Minimum age:  14 years old.

Wild Horses
and White Wings are twin 76' W-Class racing yachts, evoking the long, low profiles and overhangs of traditional racing vessels while using the latest in construction techniques.   The W-Class yachts were designed by Joel White and meticulously hand-crafted in Maine, with cold-molded hulls of epoxy saturated strips of wood, making them extrememly light and very strong.   These award-winning, record-setting Spirit of Tradition yachts are fast, race-proven sloops with a bundle of trophies from wins in New England, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean.   Like their forebears, these lovely boats have been created with a devotion to esthetics as well as performance.  Donald Tofias, owner of W-Class yachts, has generously donated the use of Wild Horses and White Wings to Nantucket Community Sailing for a gentle match race on Tuesday, August 11.   Sailing experience is not required, although experienced sailors will enjoy the thrill of crewing these fantastic yachts, along with their professional crews.
