Nantucket Regatta and Opera House Cup
May 22, 2019

Dear Nantucket Regatta and Opera House Cup Skippers, Captains, and Owners,

Registration is open and the Notice of Race documents are posted for the Nantucket Regatta, August 16 - 17, 2019 and the 47th Opera House Cup Regatta, August 18, 2019. There are already some amazing boats registered, and we look forward to welcoming you.

Some key points to consider:

  • The Nantucket Regatta is open to all sailboats with LOA >24' and a current PHRF or CRF MkII rating. The courses will be racing courses, such as windward/leeward and triangles that generally adhere to the 1/3 VMG upwind, 1/3 reaching and 1/3 VMG downwind design of the CRF MkII rating rule. There will be a single long course each day for the schooners and superyachts. Spinnakers are welcomed.

  • The Opera House Cup continues its tradition to require wooden hulls and to not allow spinnakers. The course will be a long reaching course around Nantucket Sound. The OA may consider exceptions for eligibility.

  • The Opera House Cup and the Nantucket Regatta are part of the 2019 Classic Yachts Challenge Series, organized by the Classic Yacht Owners Association.

  • We welcome the schooners and will once again give them their own start in both the Opera House Cup and the Nantucket Regatta.

  • We will give prizes for one design classes if there five or more boats in a class.

  • We are pleased to offer a limited number of complimentary moorings for boats <60' LOA. Please let us know if you need a mooring on your registration form. Boats over 60' need to make their own reservations with Nantucket Moorings or the Nantucket Boat Basin. Moorings, dock space and the anchorage are all extremely limited, so make your reservation as early as possible.

  • Please indicate on the registration form if you are interested in showing your boat for the Classic Yacht Exhibition on August 17, 2019 from 5:30 – 8:00pm in the Nantucket Boat Basin. Your boat will be featured with a one page photo and description in the Exhibition brochure.

  • If you haven't already done so, you will need to update your PHRF NE rating or CRF MkII rating for 2019. You can register for the Nantucket Regatta and OHC prior to receiving your rating, and we will update your rating once it is available.

  • Nantucket Regatta race documents and information will be posted on the NRW digital notice board and OHC documents and information will be posted on the OHC digital notice board for improved communication of information.

  • Please contact us if you have any questions and we will do our best to assist you.

Nantucket Race Week and the Opera House Cup are the primary fundraising events for Nantucket Community Sailing, and allow NCS to teach 1,000 kids to sail and provide $150,000 in financial aid and free sailing to underserved children and adults each year. Please consider a donation, and thank you for your support.
