OHC Weather Monitoring
August 19, 2021
Nantucket Community Sailing and the Opera House Cup Committee are monitoring the weather forecast for the weekend, and specifically for the impact on the Opera House Cup. We have been notified by the Harbor Master that she is evacuating the anchorage and Town Pier, the mooring field is being cleared, and boats are being pulled out of the water. She has directed us to cancel the Rainbow Parade on Sunday because the weather conditions will be unsafe for such small boats.
Our primary concern is the safety of our participants. While we do not want to prematurely call the race, we have already lost our race committee boat, some support boats, and several competitors -- all who are leaving/not coming to Nantucket or pulling their boats out of the water. This limits our ability to run a safe regatta.
We are considering a couple options to run the regatta, and will get back to you by the end of the day.
Thank you for your understanding.
